Last year at the UEFA Champions Festival in Munich, marketing agency Amplify created Das Stadion – a home for Sony and Playstation. Nirvana were asked by Amplify to build an entrance to the Sony Playstation’s experiential tent. Inside was the ultimate experiential football pitch with six connected product zones showcasing the possibilities of Sony’s new ‘Connected World’, as well as an interactive ‘Colour of Football’ wall displaying imagery of many of the fans who visited the festival.
We manufactured a number of elements of Das Stadion. The goal-shaped entrance to the tent was made from an existing truss frame, which we clad and painted white, attaching goal netting from the frame to the tent, to create a sensation of walking through the goal mouth into the tent for the visitors.
Sat on top of the goal were 3D letters spelling out Das Stadion. There were manufactured from polycore and ply laminate with a heavy gauge nylon rope covering (to simulate shoelaces). This was then painted a Pantone-matched red (032)
Dotted around the interior of the tent were a variety of mannequins, posed in a number of mid-action, dynamic footballing stances, which we sprayed in a single colour epoxy resin to create real stand-out from the rest of the space.
When completed ‘Das Stadion’ was a platform for a knockout tournament with an opportunity to win tickets to the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final.
KONAMI, in conjunction with PlayStation, ran qualifying competitions throughout the April in seven countries – Germany, UK, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal – to find seven champions who were then flown to Munich for a knock-out competition. These games were then contested at the UEFA Champions Festival, the final was played at the floating pitch at Olympic Park, and broadcast across the festival.
