It seems a long time ago now that we were celebrating the release of the Nirvana CPH x Studio Blackburn Euro Wall Chart, here at our London headquarters, at the beginning of June. The anticipation was palpable – and, we thought, justified – as we watched England defeat Portugal in the final friendly before the start of the tournament proper. This could well be our year, we told ourselves. Portugal look down-and-out, we said, a defensive-minded team with no ambition.
But, my, what a difference a few weeks can make. By the time the tournament came to a close on Sunday, July 10th, England had spent the best part of two weeks attempting to comprehend their ignominious Round of 16 exit at the hands of everyone’s-second-favourite-team, Iceland. Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, was joyously lifting the Henri Delaunay trophy after a most improbable victory over host nation France in the final. If ever a friendly match had taught us less about the outcome of an upcoming tournament, this was surely it.
It’s at times like this that we need to look for beauty in the world. And, thanks to bike manufacturer Just Ride It, we were lucky enough to be able to display an absolute beauty – a very special, one-of-a-kind fixie – at the launch of our Euro 2016 Wall Chart. Adorned on one side with a set of names that will go down in history for all the right reasons – and, on the other, a set of names that will for all the wrong ones – the matt black bike was complete with disc covers that mirrored each nation’s sticker from this year’s wall chart.
With this year’s Tour de France well underway, and Chris Froome still sitting pretty in the yellow jersey for now, we can only hope that we see an altogether more successful Englishman on a bike come the Champs Elysées on July 24th. For now, enjoy some images of this unique bike below.
