Beauty Packaging EcoTubes
Producing nearly 3 billion extruded plastic tubes and almost 4 billion laminate tubes in Europe alone there is a vast market for bio-solutions.
Vista Packaging is one of the first manufacturers to create a plastic tube replacement for cosmetics, beauty, personal care and pharmaceuticals, which are made using sugarcane.
The sugarcane derives from the agricultural industry, which produces an ethylene from the ethanol (sugarcane biofuel) in the production process. The ethylene is polymerised in the polyethylene production, which is then transformed into the final tubular packaging products by moulding the raw material.
What are the benefits of sugarcane-based plastics?
- Comes from a renewable source rather than fossil fuels
- 100% recyclable
- Biodegradable
- Very low carbon footprint
- FDA approved
- ISO certified
- Verified to be bio-based by ASTM standards
On top of the very solid aforementioned credentials, these bioplastic sugarcane tubes, can also be printed onto using modern printing technologies. These yield an ongoing list of satisfied customers and include: 8 colour offset print, 6 colour silkscreen, hot stamping (with a 0.1mm tolerance), FlexTech™ printing and gradation from 100% down to 0%. These processing opportunities offer a versatile bio-packaging substitute to commonly used synthetic-based products.
Considering the fact that sugarcane comes from a plant-based source, perhaps beauty industry, could view this as an opportunity to directly connect the story of their product with the material it is housed in. To exemplify, sugar scrubs, where sugar is the main internal ingredient, could be paired with a sugarcane bioplastic outer packaging solution. Application of this thinking could result in creation of a more wholesome products and product stories.
Lastly, it is worth noting that other industries are also noticing the benefits of using byproducts of the sugarcane manufacturing industry. If interested, please continue reading here.
