Material Board 01: Laser Engraved Wood by Matt Busher

At Nirvana, we are always on the lookout for interesting materials and processes, and thinking about ways in which relationships between the two can be reimagined and redefined in light of prevailing trends in twenty-first century design.

The Nirvana Material Board series is the physical manifestation of this pursuit; an exciting collaborative project that invites designers from across multiple disciplines to take one material and one process, with the ultimate aim of creating something personal, beautiful and thought-provoking. With just an A5 space to work in, our designers must be concise and to-the-point.

A good dose of wit never goes amiss, either, and so it is with great pleasure that we introduce the first in our exciting new series; a delightfully playful message from designer Matt Busher of Mandatory Thinking that won’t be revealed until the reader holds the board at just the right angle.

“Oh, that’s quite nice,” is Matt’s message of choice, laser-cut into a base of Ash wood. And, quite frankly, we’d have to agree with him.
