The BA Honours Fashion Show is the highlight of the London fashion graduation shows, and this year it was sponsored by L’Oreal, with guests such as Grayson Perry, the ceremony host Giles Deacon, as well as Phoebe Philo who handed out the awards to the cream of this year’s talent. Highlights included Nicholas Daley’s menswear collection modelled by DJ Don Letts and the amazing, voluminous parachute dress by Alve Lagercrantz.
Each year Nirvana produces the show invites. The 2013 invite, designed by Danny Vaia, was based around a pop-up concept. The numbers 3 and 7 – representing the time that the two shows were held – popped up from one of the two versions of the invite upon opening and were printed a bold orange or blue to contrast to the white card. The stock that was die cut around the numbers was printed on reverse also, creating an intriguing coloured block visible through a cut-out when the invite was closed.
Nirvana was also commissioned to create a number of short films documenting the project. The first features the making of the invite, showing the intricate die cutting processes and printing. We also interviewed three of the final year fashion students to get their insights about their time on the fashion course and how Central St Martins has helped their fashion creativity flourish, as well as Willie Walters, the BA Course Director. Finally, we created a short film of the graduation show.
