G-Sessions Winning Watch Strap

by Donna Creek

G-SHOCK, the watch that is the ultimate byword for toughness, celebrated its 30th anniversary at the end of 2013 with a Pan-European project called G-Sessions. Major cities across Europe selected their best creative talent to take part, who were tasked with curating and engaging other local creatives to dream up an idea that showcased their individual talents – anything from a piece of music to a sculpture – which would sit alongside a design for the G-SHOCK watch.

All the watch designs were then put to the public vote, with the ultimate winner being announced at a huge party in Berlin’s Kraftwerk . It was the Russian skateboard and streetwear photographer Nikita Yarutskiy who triumphed on the night. Watch the night of the final here.

Nirvana took Yarutskiy’s winning watch design and printed it onto the straps, producing the limited edition straps which will also be going in to mass production at Casio’s Japanese R&D centre. The other artworks were also printed as limited edition prints which were then sold in the Colette store, Paris.
