Nike BaySixty6 Skatepark

by Jonnie Jensen

The BaySixty6 Skate park in West London has recently re-opened after being refitted and taken over by Nike. Wieden and Kennedy were the driving force behind this new venture. The park is the only all weather skate park in the UK as it is under the West Way which gives it shelter all year round from the elements. Because of this the identity of the Umbrella was created.

Nirvana were asked to produce a limited edition production run of umbrellas in the colours used for the identity with a screen printed logo. On each of these there was a laser engraved handle with the logo and limited edition number of 1 – 100. A bespoke packaging box was created to house each umbrella, these had a 2 colour screen print on the brown corrugated material.

Nike hid 10 of the umbrellas at skateparks around London, the lucky person to find them had to photograph themselves with the umbrella and their skateboard for the chance to skate in the park before it officially opened.
